Because I have an interesting (hah!) life, there are times I use some personal slang. This is where you will find any terms you are confused about.
If you cannot find a term here, leave me a comment on the applicable post, and I will explain it and make sure to add it here!
The Ferrets – my six best writer friends. We do some crazy stuff together.
SD – short for “sperm donor”. I… do not have a good relationship with my biological father. (Who is still married to my mother.) I can’t call him ‘dad’ or ‘father’, because in every way that actually matters, he has never been those things to me. So, he is called ‘SD’ when I absolutely must refer to him on the blog.
Laura/The Vet/Best Friend – my best friend from childhood. Seriously, we’ve known each other since we were pre-teens. We battled all the hard things of growing up together. But where I am creative, she is scientific, and she is now a veterinarian. So, if I talk about taking one of the animals to the vet, or hanging out with my best friend, or just refer to her as ‘Laura’, it is (likely) the same person.
To avoid confusion, though, I will warn you now – I do have another friend named Laura. This Laura is a friend I made about a decade ago, and she is a fellow writer. I will usually refer to her as Laura W.
NaNo/NaNoWriMo/OMG NOVEMBER IS COMING – National Novel Writing Month. A writing challenge – 50,000 words in 30 days. I usually go insane in November.
ML/Municipal Liaison – the second reason I go insane in November. If you value your sanity, do not become a regional organizer for NaNoWriMo. However… it’s one of the most rewarding things you can do.
Scribe – This blog. A possible title from it’s early days that is pretty much null now, but the term is still used in some earlier posts.
BDN – my previous blog, Black & Dark Night/Rebekah Loper, Writer.
