Be Born In Me – Dec 24
I’m doing songs 24 and 25 today, because tomorrow promises to be very busy, as I’m sure it will be for most of you as well.
While Christmas is all about celebrating Jesus’ birth… there would have been no birth of it wasn’t for one very brave young woman who said “Let it be done to me according to your word.”
This first song, Be Born In Me, is told from Mary’s point of view, but at the same time is so relevant to us now.
Will we let Christ be born in us, to dwell in us and work through us?
Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah, and entered into the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She called out with a loud voice, and said,
“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! Why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For behold, when the voice of your greeting came into my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy!
Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord!”Mary said,
“My soul magnifies the Lord.
My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior,
for he has looked at the humble state of his servant.
For behold, from now on, all generations will call me blessed.
For he who is mighty has done great things for me.
Holy is his name.Luke 1:39-49 WEB

Mary, Did You Know? – Dec 25
This song is probably one of the most popular ones ever about Mary – I wouldn’t be surprised if the only one that is more well-known is Ave Maria.
I remember when I first found out this song was written by Mark Lowry.
If you weren’t in any Christian social circles in the 90s, though, you probably have no idea who Mark Lowry is.
For a while, he was probably considered the Christian comedian. He also toured with the Gaither Vocal Band for a time (he still might, I don’t really keep up with the Gaither’s, personally).
But this song really goes to show you how diverse people’s thoughts and creative inclinations can be.
And often, I have definitely found that is the people who laugh the most who can make the most profound insights.
This song is certainly one of those.
But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.
